JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — Owning and operating your own business isn’t easy, but one Jacksonville business owner learned the discipline and work ethic in his college days that prepared him for his future. Bobby Raymond, who owns Brightway, Fort Caroline, shares his story of parlaying the lessons learned as a walk-on for the University of Florida football team to a successful career as a business owner in “The Walk-on Method” by Jim Roddy. The book, published in September 2020, shares Raymond’s story in chapter 30 titled, “Focus Every Day.”
“My experiences at Florida play a special role in my life and how I run my insurance agency, so when Jim approached me about sharing my story for his book, I was ecstatic to talk with him,” said Raymond. “It really was an exciting time in my life and to be able to share those memories in a book that can help others succeed in their own lives and businesses is truly rewarding.”
Raymond walked on to the University of Florida football team in 1981 and worked his way up the roster to become the starting kicker his junior and senior years. In 1983, he led the Southeastern Conference in field goals made, field goal percentage and points, beating out legendary player, Bo Jackson, as the top scorer in the conference. In 1984, he built on his success and again led the conference in field goals made, field goal percentage and points.
In the book, Raymond says the focus he learned at Florida remains today, and he uses it to do the best job possible for his clients. He has been helping families in Northeast Florida protect their homes, vehicles and more since opening Brightway, Fort Caroline 11 years ago.
